Due to the threat of severe weather and heavy rains on Thursday, we have rescheduled our soccer game vs. Ashe County to Friday at 4:00 PM. This is the only possible date we could reschedule this game because all regular season soccer contest must be reported to the NCHSAA by Saturday, November 2nd. This means we will play the soccer game prior to the start of the football game vs. Alleghany at 7:30 PM. Those attending the soccer game will be allowed into the stadium to watch the soccer match, but gates for the football game will not open until 6:00 PM. This means that the stadium will be cleared of all fans following the soccer game. Entry back into the stadium will be allowed when the gates re-open at 6:00 PM.
Registration for Winter Athletics is currently open on FamilyID. If you participated in a fall sport and have already registered you do not need to register again. If you have not registered you must complete your registration on FamilyID before October 30th to be able to participate in try-outs on the first day of winter sports.
Please remember that the drug test consent form and NCHSAA physical forms are still hard copy and we must have an up to date physical and signed drug consent form for your athlete to participate. If an athlete has completed a drug test consent form at any point during their time at North Wilkes then they do not have to complete the form again. If you have a question about whether your athlete's physical is up to date and you have already registered on FamilyID, you can check your information there. If you have any other questions please contact Athletic Director Logan Call, [email protected] or Athletic Trainer Kelsey Rice, [email protected]. Drug test consent forms and physical forms are available in the front office at North Wilkes. We also have instructions for registration available in the North Wilkes main office. The link to familyID is included in the post. Jaguar Night 10/4
We will recognize the 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade Jaguar Football teams at halftime of our varsity football game against Wilkes Central this Friday. We will also recognize all of our Jaguar cheerleaders throughout the game by giving each age group an opportunity to cheer with our varsity cheerleaders for one quarter during the game. All cheerleaders, players, and coaches will be admitted into the game free of charge, but parents will still pay full admission. We look forward to seeing everyone at the game next Friday as we celebrate our current and future Vikings Charles Wooten was honored Friday night with the naming of the baseball field in his honor. Many former players, friends and associates attended a drop in reception in his honor.
North Wilkes High School is excited to announce that we will be naming our baseball field in honor of Coach Charles Wooten. All of those who knew or played for Coach Wooten, know the great man he was and the tremendous impact he had on North Wilkes Athletics. In his tenure as Head baseball coach, Wooten not only built a winner but also made numerous upgrades to our facilities that brought North Wilkes baseball up to speed with other local programs. His teams posted winning records year after year and in 1974 the baseball team won the only regular season conference championship in school history. Coach Wooten also played a vital role in our football programs success during this time as an assistant coach and had a remarkable record as head coach of our JV boy's basketball team.
In honor of Coach Wooten we will have a ceremony to recognize him and his family at halftime of the East Wilkes football game on Friday, September 27th. We will also have a meet and greet with refreshments from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm before the game in the school cafeteria. Anyone who called Mr. Wooten "Coach" is invited to attend this event. We will have an official ceremony during baseball season this spring to honor Coach Wooten and unveil the sign and monument we will be placing at the baseball field in his honor. Please join us on Friday, September 27th to show our appreciation for Coach Wooten and all he has done for North Wilkes athletics. Carolina Panthers Contest
The contest is through the Carolina Panthers and it gives 4 high schools in North Carolina the opportunity to win 24 brand new football helmets. These are the same top of the line helmets the Panthers wear. Football helmets are one of, if not the largest expense our athletic department has annually. Winning this contest would save our athletic program thousands of dollars over the next several years. It will allow us to use money we usually have allotted for helmets on other projects and athletic teams. To win this contest we have to have the most votes among all 2A high school's in North Carolina. The information for the contest will be posted on social media, scrolling announcements, and around school starting today. If anyone knows of businesses in the community who would be interested in posting information please let me know and we can provide posters. You can vote an unlimited number of times each day, so please take the time to vote and spread the word about this opportunity around the community.
