North Wilkes High School is excited to announce that we will be naming our baseball field in honor of Coach Charles Wooten. All of those who knew or played for Coach Wooten, know the great man he was and the tremendous impact he had on North Wilkes Athletics. In his tenure as Head baseball coach, Wooten not only built a winner but also made numerous upgrades to our facilities that brought North Wilkes baseball up to speed with other local programs. His teams posted winning records year after year and in 1974 the baseball team won the only regular season conference championship in school history. Coach Wooten also played a vital role in our football programs success during this time as an assistant coach and had a remarkable record as head coach of our JV boy's basketball team.
In honor of Coach Wooten we will have a ceremony to recognize him and his family at halftime of the East Wilkes football game on Friday, September 27th. We will also have a meet and greet with refreshments from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm before the game in the school cafeteria. Anyone who called Mr. Wooten "Coach" is invited to attend this event. We will have an official ceremony during baseball season this spring to honor Coach Wooten and unveil the sign and monument we will be placing at the baseball field in his honor. Please join us on Friday, September 27th to show our appreciation for Coach Wooten and all he has done for North Wilkes athletics.
